Be still my heart

On Tuesday, we had coffee with our dog Genesis (now named Jenny) and her new mom, Heather. Heather is great, and they’re both so good for each other. :). Heather told us that shortly after we left for Korea this summer, she brought Gen to the vet for a check-up and found out the she had heart worms! This can be fatal for dogs, but they caught it early, and after three months of treatments and a lot of money, Genesis was cured of heart worms.

Adam and I never go to the doctor, and we almost never brought Gen to the vet. If we still had Gen, we probably wouldn’t have caught her heart worms until she was too sick. Another lesson in parenting: check-ups matter. Thanks, Heather for taking care of our girl.

Back to the grind…

What do the Lofbomm nerds do while on vacation? We go to our favorite coffee shop and sit silently at our matching iBook computers for hours, that’s what. Mmmm. We’re back in Nashville, enjoying the chai lattes and East Nashville atmosphere of Bongo Java. Mmm. Love it.

Longest day

Wednesday, February 7, 2007 was the longest day of my life. Literally. I have never before experienced a 39 hour day. We flew from Seoul to Tokyo to Chicago, and with the time differences, we watched the sun rise and set twice on the same day. Weird.

Now we’re recovering from jetlag, but I wanted to say hi. We arrived safely in the states. We enjoyed a lovely evening with my parents in Illinois, and this morning Adam went on to Nashville. We’ll spend a few days with our respective parents, and then I’ll head to Nashville too.

Adam’s dad’s surgery seems to have gone well yesterday, and he’s expected to be home by the time Adam arrives there today. Hopefully Adam will write an update.

That’s all for now. I’ll write more soon.

Almost there!

goinghome

I can’t believe that in just four days, we’ll be getting on a plane headed home! I am so excited, I can just feel it. Actually, the last week or so, I find myself mentally there in Nashville already- driving around my favorite areas, standing in Mom and Dad’s kitchen, hanging at Bongo East or chillin’ on Granny’s couch. It feels good. Neither of us have ever felt so eager to go home for a visit. Even after six months in India, Nepal and Thailand, I didn’t feel this way. I wonder what it is this time?

My theory is that it’s because we’re so happy and satisfied with our life here. Wanting to go home is coming from a place of fullness instead of lack. We’re not desperate to go, things are working well here. There have been a few returns I’ve made home that felt like defeats in the past, with my tail between my legs. This trip is not like that at all. It’s much more like a victory lap.

Anyway, just know that we’re totally stoked, and can’t wait to see those of you who will be in Chicago and Nashville when we arrive.

Aww

Well that was sweet.  Adam is a good man, and I’m a very fortunate girl.  Adam wrote the previous post while I was getting my hair done today.  I’m also glad that he was feeling so loving at the moment because my hair cost quite a bit more than I expected…  :).

He read his post to me, and he got all teary.  It reminds me of when Adam asked my dad if he could marry me.

Did we ever tell you that story?

So, they’re at Cracker Barrel in Nashville having breakfast, and Adam is giving my dad a status report of our relationship.  He isn’t intending to ask for my hand just yet, but we’re definitely headed that way.

My dad interrupts Adam and says, “Adam, you can stop right there.  I know where this is headed, and we would love for you to marry Jessica.”

…but…ummm…I wasn’t asking yet…

“When are you thinking of asking her?”

“I was thinking maybe Christmas time, around her birthday?”

“Aw, do you think it could be any sooner?  I know Jessica and her mom are itching to plan the wedding.”

“Well, um, I guess I could do Thanksgiving…”

They melted from there into tears in the middle of the Cracker Barrel.  Adam and my dad are both wonderfully sensitive men.  What a gift.  :).  I love you, Adam.  And I love you, Dad.

Over the river and through the hood…

We were having trouble getting our video-embedded posts to show up here on the new site (since the re-design also involved moving to a self-hosted WordPress site. The old version which was a patchwork of Rapidweaver and a self-hosted Blogger site, and a Flickr iframe page, if you happen to care.), but I found a great plugin for WordPress that has us up and running again! Lovely.

I was feeling homesick again for Nashville and for our fantastic neighborhood over on the East side, so I checked to see if there were any interesting videos in or about East Nashville. Found this funny news spot that I thought was worth sharing. I can’t wait to visit the old haunts when we’re home in February. I know it’s a little sweeter in our minds just because its so far away, but it really is a great place.

I’m resolving this year to write shorter posts and way more ofter. Jess has 139 posts to my 30 or so in the last two plus years. That’s pretty lame. I gotta represent…

Take care.
