Top 40, Baby!

Posted by Jessica on Sep 5th, 2007

Tonight Adam and I watched a great documentary on Nirvana’s landmark album, “Nevermind”. Man, that’s a great album. They were just trying to make a good record and ended up replacing Michael Jackson at #1 on the Billboard charts. It went on to sell over 26 million copies worldwide.

This is funny because after we finished watching, I opened my email to see a link to this:

Yes. I am now Top 40.

Well, actually #40 for seven weeks so far on the Idol Underground Electronica chart with my song “Quiet My Fears”. Who knew?

Over a year ago, I uploaded my song on Idol Underground, following a link from myspace. Then, I forgot about it. Here I am now, a superstar. Aren’t you impressed?

Additionally, this is funny timing because I just received an email from my online CD distributor, CD Baby, asking if they can send my CDs back to me since they’re not selling. If you want to listen to the charts and stick it to the Baby, click here to get your own copy of my musical masterpiece. If not, I can have them mail my CDs back to my parents’ house where they’ll sit in a box in my old bedroom for generations until our grandkids dig them out and use them as coasters.

Good night. :).

p.s. My newly rediscovered Idol Underground page is idolunderground.com/jessicalofbomm.

p.p.s. I actually am proud of my CD, and if you’d like to buy a copy, click the CD Baby link above. It’s just $12, and they ship anywhere in the world. I’m also on iTunes if you’re digital like me.

Korean Drumming

Posted by Jessica on Jul 6th, 2007

Free concert or movie?  That’s what we were trying to decide.  We made the right choice.

Last night, Adam and I went to the north of Seoul for an incredible concert of traditional Korean drumming.  It was outdoors on the grounds of the Hwa Gye Sa temple at the base of a mountain.  An awesome evening.  Here’s a little video we put together.

Would Beauty Transcend?

Posted by Jessica on Apr 12th, 2007
What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

– from “Leisure,” by W.H. Davies

I just read an incredible article by the Washington Post in which they posed the question, “In a banal setting at an inconvenient time, would beauty transcend?” They enlisted one of the world’s greatest classical musicians to play on his $3.5 million 1713 Stradivari violin some of the most transcendent violin pieces ever written. And he did this posing as a street musician in a Washington D.C. subway station during morning rush hour.

The article is incredible, complete with video clips. Click here to read it.

p.s. Thanks for the link, Jeff.

Addendum: In contrast, this video currently has 635,911 views on YouTube. Hmm.

American Idol

Posted by Jessica on Mar 21st, 2007

Yeah, I’m writing a blog about American Idol. The thing is, I went to Belmont with Melinda Doolittle, and I wanted to send my support. She’s the popular favorite for winning the contest. Watch the video and see why. I can’t watch or vote since we’re on the other side of the planet, so maybe you can for us. :).

Glen Ellyn Children’s Chorus

Posted by Jessica on Jan 31st, 2007

I was just highlighted in the Glen Ellyn Children’s Chorus email newsletter.  I sang in the chorus from 1989-1995.  It is an excellent group in which I learned to really sing, and they gave me the travel bug.  It’s an honor to be highlighted, and I want to welcome those of you who have come here from that email.  We’re glad you’re here!

I’ve got to work now.  See you later.  Take care!

Getting a groove

Posted by Jessica on Jan 28th, 2007

Just wanted to say hi…

We had our Artist’s Way group tonight at Cheryl’s place. Simon couldn’t come because he was making things happen for his new Speed Dating scheme (go Simon!), but Cynthia was able to join us for the first time. We had a great discussion and set some creativity goals for the week.

My goals for this week are:

1. Sing every day
2. Blog every day
3. Write the first draft of lyrics to a song (even if it’s lame)

Adam’s goals for this week are:

1. Find and begin practicing vocal exercises
2. Sketch thrice
3. Begin cataloging his photographs (with the intention of preparing for an art show)

I feel good. Cynthia and Cheryl both encouraged me about my CD. Even though I released it just seven months ago, I already feel disconnected from it, like it’s so old. I appreciate hearing from friends that they still listen to it regularly and that they love it.

Also, I taught Future World today, and the regular costume was being cleaned, so I had to wear the skinny costume. And it fit! I feel good.

:).

We’ll be home in less than two weeks.

Good night.

Good music- Krista Vossler

I just thought I’d send you over to Krista Vossler’s website. She is a musician friend of mine with a new album. You can hear some tracks on her site, and they’re great! If you’re in the Pennsylvania area, you can check out her show on January 13.

I hadn’t been to Krista’s site in a while, and I was really excited to hear her new stuff. Great job, Krista!
