Disappearing act

Here’s the key to getting healthy and losing weight: eat less crap, eat more healthy stuff, and exercise. I tell ya, it works.

Back in September, Adam was talking about health with our friend Bill. Bill is 40, and he swims, weight-lifts and does intense yoga. He’s really fit. Bill encouraged Adam to do five push-ups and five sit-ups a day. Adam kind of scoffed because, well, five seemed pretty pathetic, but Bill pointed out that five was better than the zero Adam was currently doing. So, he did five, and realized it was a little harder than he thought it would be.

Adam did his five sit-ups and push-ups every day for a week, and one week later, he added three more. The next week, he went up to eleven of each. After a month, he was up to twenty. After two months, he was doing thirty-two sit-ups and push-ups each day. It was about that time, in November, that I started to notice Adam’s shoulders and chest bulking up. Soon after, his stomach started disappearing.

In December, I realized that there really was a pattern to Adam’s progress, and I started doing my daily five. Now, it’s January, Adam is doing fifty-one sit-ups and push-ups each day, and he looks downright hot. I’m up to twenty-three, and I feel great!

I only tell you this because two different men asked me this week if I have lost weight, and men KNOW that they shouldn’t ask that question if it’s not apparently true.

Some of you may be athletes, and these numbers seem puny. However, for artistic types like us, we have never exercised so consistently. We’re feeling good changes in our bodies, and I wanted to share them with you. I wanted to encourage you that it only takes five. Once five feels easy, add three. Then three more. Soon, you’ll be able to do so much more than you ever thought you could.

p.s. Another important element to health is cardiovascular exercise, and fortunately our lifestyle without a car in Seoul requires a lot of walking. We also go out of our way to take stairs instead of escalators.
