First Anniversary

Posted by Lofbomms on Jun 26th, 2005

Happy one year anniversary to us. What a great year it has been. I’m not going to write much now, but I wanted to stop in and say that the high school mission trip went really well. We really enjoyed getting to know some of the kids better. They’re special kids. It was a really stretching expereience for them, and they really rose to the challenge. We’ll post some picture from the trip before long.

Yesterday we went to Lebanon (in Tennessee) to see my cousin SC in the final performance of the arts camp she was attending. It was good to see her and uncle Peter.

I’ve gotta go now, but I hope you have a great afternoon. We’ll share more soon. Thanks for stopping in.

a lot of work

Posted by Lofbomms on Jun 15th, 2005

We haven’t gotten home earlier than 11pm since early last week, I think. Tonight doesn’t look like it will be any different. Tomorrow Adam begins the high school mission trip in Nashville. I’m going to help some. Adam has been so stressed and spread thin. I hope the projects are successful and the kids really come through on the opportunities that Adam has helped prepare. There’s potential for them to do a lot of good and a lot of growing.

Last night we had a date night to displace the days of hard work we have been having and the week ahead where we will have almost no time with each other. We had dinner at Joe’s Crab Shack, which was really nice. It was a beautiful night to sit on their deck and eat seafood. It felt like we were in a beach town. I like that. Then we walked to the ice cream parlor and had ice cream. Then we went and saw “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie movie at Opry Mills. It’s a fun movie. Lots of explosions and an enjoyable story. It was a very nice and much-needed date.

We’re about a week and a half from our first anniversary. I’m looking forward to it, although I think we’re going to be booked all that weekend too. We have decided to go somewhere the following weekend (over July 4) to celebrate our anniversary. I think we’re going to go to San Fransisco. Did I already write about this? I don’t know. Anyway, we’re so anxious to get onto the traveling and exploring part of summer that will begin in July. June has been a lot of work.

American Dream

Posted by Lofbomms on Jun 10th, 2005

I talked to my friend Serife yesterday about dreams. She’s Turkish. We were talking about how big things happen when you have big dreams, and nothing special happens when you don’t dream of anything special. I ragged on Americans (myself included) about how we are a lazy culture, and since everything is at our finger-tips, we don’t know how to try for anything. That’s why test scores decline and we get fat and lazy. She said something interesting. She said that it is the dream of so many people all over the world to live and work in America. That’s their huge dream. She said that since we already have that, we don’t need to dream. I disagree, but it was an interesting thing to hear my friend say.

How the story goes

Posted by Lofbomms on Jun 3rd, 2005

I just came across this today- something I scribbled down one afternoon in February while I was in the First Baptist sanctuary resting on the front steps and enjoying the light pouring through the westward stained glass windows. It was my first attempt at poetry(?) in a long time.

This beauty is no accident
This beauty is no accident
The light is not an accident
Then Trinity,
Then God and Spirit,
Come now, show your face!
The heavenlies surround me,
Come and show your face!

But I can almost hear you say,
“That’s not My Story—
that’s not how it goes…”

“But what about Elisha
and his chariots of fire?”

“That’s not your story—
that’s not how it goes…”

“Alright then,” I say,”I must admit,
the stories You’ve written are much nicer
than my own…but I don’t like it, all the same-
sensing Your glory just beyond,
yet having You feel so far away.”

“I know— that’s one of the more
beautiful touches to the story.”
