He’s alive

Posted by Lofbomms on Oct 26th, 2004

Hi there, everybody! I’m still alive and kicking- and so is my e-mail address, thanks to Mailblocks. Cheesy joke, sorry. Jess and I had a fantastic dinner with our friends Jonathan and Cassandra at their house tonight. They made bacon-wrapped shrimp and oven-roasted new potatoes. Tres bien! We all had a great time talking about plans for Jessica’s upcoming recording project. Jonathan is a very talented player and aspiring producer/label owner and he has agreed to help us steer the production ship. He has a fantastic ear and seemed to get really excited about emulating the flavor of Dido’s production of which Jess and I are huge fans. I think it’s going to be a very beautiful and acessibly innovative record that will truly honor the Lord and the gifts He has given all of the folks that are going to be involved.

I am very stoked about the newest developments on the more pragmatic front in the Lofbomm house as well. Jess and I have both signed on with a company called Primerica Financial Services. It’s a really fantastic opportunity for us. After my Rich Dad Poor Dad revelation, I had been looking for a job that would increase my financial literacy as well as some sort of business opportunity that could produce residual income for Jess and I when we travel. Working for Primerica is in fact, both. We are nearly finished with the licensing requirements for Life Insurance Sales, and will soon be licensed to broker mortgages and sell securities. Since Primerica operates on network marketing principles, we will have the opportunity to get as much training as we can stomach from those successful, experienced people above us. In addition, the network marketing model will allow us to use Jessica’s and my greatest strength, relationship building, to create a team of people who will generate override revenue for us even when we step away from actively generrating new clients ourselves. I know it will not be just as easy as it sounds on the front end, but I am really excited to have this opportunity to learn so much and perhaps even make money doing it.

If you have the chance to pick up the Bonoeffer book below, do it. It is amazing. His mind peers right into the heart of what Christian community is really all about, and what you find there is far richer and demanding than what most of us experience.

“Out-contested”

Posted by Lofbomms on Oct 18th, 2004

Now I’m unemployed. It’s my first Monday out of the office, and I don’t know where to go next. I went to the zoo today to see if they’d filled the position yet bacause I hadn’t heard anything. The woman said that they were in the final phase of interviewing, so if I hadn’t gotten called, I must have been out-contested. I’m bummed about that. I just went through the whole Career Builder newspaper, and nothing sounds good to me. I don’t know what to do next. Keep on looking…

Adam is in training today for his new job at SunTrust Bank. I’m excited for his new job, and I hope it is something that he can really enjoy and learn from.

His art show was awesome. We had a steady flow of a lot of people all afternoon and evening, and we sold several paintings. It was great. Adam got a lot of positive feedback, so I’m happy for him. He did a great job. My parents came down from Chicago, and they were very helpful in the show and fun to have around. Also, my friend Liz from high school drove down for the show from central Illinois, and it was great to spend time with her (thank you, Liz).

I want to share this, St. Patrick’s Breastplate, a prayer that I read today and really appreciated:

“I arise today through a mighty strength. The invocation of the trinity, through belief in the threeness, through the confession of the oneness of the ‘Creator of Creation.’

“I arise today, through the strength of Christ’s birth with his baptism, through the strength of his Crucifixion with his burial, through the strength of his resurrection with his ascension, through the strength of his descent for the judgement of doom.

“I arise today, through the strength of love of cherubim, in obedience of angels, and in the service of archangels. In the hope of resurrection to meet with reward and in the prayers of patriarchs, and predictions of prophets, and the preaching of apostles, and in the faith of confessor’s, and in the innocence of holy virgins and the deeds of righteous men.

“I arise today from the strength of Heaven, light of sun, radiance of moon, splendor of fire, speed of lightning, swiftness of wind, depth of sea, stability of earth, firmness of rock.

“I arise through God’s strength to pilot me, God’s might to uphold me, God’s wisdom to guide me, God’s eye to look before me, God’s ear to hear me, God’s word to speak for me, God’s hand to guard me, God’s way to lie before me, God’s shield to protect me, God’s host to save me from the snares of devils, from temptation of vices, from everyone who should wish me ill afar, and a near, alone or in multitudes. I summon today all these powers between me and those evils.

“Against every cruel merciless power that may oppose my body and soul. Against incantations of false prophets, against black laws of pagandom, against false laws of heretics, against every knowledge that corrupts man’s body and soul. Christ to shield me today against poisoning, against burning, against drowning, against wounding, so that there may come to me an abundance of reward.

“Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in front of me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise, Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me.

“I arise today through a mighty strength, through the invocation of the trinity, through belief in the threeness, through confession of the oneness of the ‘Creator of Creation.’”

I QUIT! *SLAM*

Posted by Lofbomms on Oct 9th, 2004

So, maybe you don’t know, but I quit my job. Not like, “I QUIT!” and slam the door. No. More like, “This is no longer the place for me. Thanks for the great opportunities here. Please consider this my two weeks notice.”

That was a week ago. So now it’s the one week mark. The middle Friday. Next Friday is my last day. I’m excited (a lot) and sad (but just a little). I like the people here, but I don’t like the work and how the work makes the people behave. It also makes me weary and useless to appropriately pursue taking care of my husband and home and recording my album (now much more seriously in the works than ever before).

So what’s next? Well, I’m glad you asked. I want to work at the ZOO! Yep. Not as a pooper scooper. They have an opening in guest services (and management of guest services, but I may be under qualified for that position). It would be processing and welcoming the school groups that come, dealing with members, and yes, selling tickets. It would be so cool to be outside, especially this time of year when it’s brisk, people are excited about Christmas, they’ve got Christmas Carols piped through the speakers (pretty soon), lights twinkling, and slightly frosted cheeks! I could wear sweaters! In my office job, I still get one half-day paid vacation, so I’m taking this afternoon off to go talk to the zoo people. I so hope they like me!

My other promising option is working at the day care center at my church on Monday-Fridays. It would also be great because I would get off every day at 3:30 (instead of 5:30!), and they would like to use me to teach some basic music to the kids as well. It’s also a great opportunity, and I’m interviewing on Tueday.

All kinds of changing going on in the Lofbomm estate. Adam just got hired yesterday at the SunTrust Bank as a teller, and he’ll start on the 18th (the Monday after my last Friday at Greenebaum and the Saturday of his art show!). We’re excited about that opportunity. He has not been getting the regular hours at Sportsman’s Grill that he was promised, so he’s been looking for a change.

This morning, Adam had a few guys over to start a guys Friday bible study at 6:30. I think they had a really nice time. I’m glad they’re doing that. Now, I need to connect more deeply with some girls.

Tonight we’re flying to Chicago for my 5-year high school reunion. I know, how could I be so old!? :). I’m glad they’re having a 5-year. I’m excited to see people. I always thought that my class was full of some great people. We had cliques, but they weren’t divided like they are in other schools. They were pretty fluid. I’m excited for Adam to meet people and for them to meet him. He’s the best. He even got a haircut this week to maximize his hotness factor. The Saturday night party will be at my parents’ house because it’s so close to the school. That will be fun. I’m excited to get home and see Mom and Dad, too. I love my parents.

Okay, that’s all for now. I can’t wait to go to the zoo!
