grey and chill

Posted by Lofbomms on Jul 26th, 2004

Grey days make me happy, even on Monday. I think a grey Monday is better than a sunny Monday if you have to go to work. Do you spell grey “grey” or “gray”? I know that both are right, but I wonder which comes from where. I like “grey” better– it looks more melancholy, and that fits.

Anyway, Adam’s on a painting frenzy, and I’m glad. He’s cranking out some beautiful stuff that you all need to buy. We’re both trying to go by the motto, “Not a day without a line,” in regards to our creative endeavors.

I finally picked up my guitar for the first time in, literally, months. I’ve become quite afraid of the thing because the moment I touch it, I think of everything I need to do to “make it” with my music. Adam and I decided that I’m going to pick up my guitar every day for a while and not think or talk about my career in music. I’m just going to enjoy it for its own sake, and I’m going to practice other peoples’ music and not force my own. There is this stigma around “musician” that has bogged me down, so right now, I’m “wife who likes to play and sing around the house”. I like that better.

And then they were one.

June 26 was a beautiful day, and we couldn’t have had a better time. We were surrounded with so many dear friends and family. Everyone was joyful, there were no stressful glitches, and there were plenty of memorable moments. And by the end of it all, I got to be the wife of the man I love.

Mexico and California were both relaxing and richly interesting places. Jeff and Meg’s generosity was the key provider in both legs of the trip. We loved spending time with them and were glad to help them move once we reached California.

Looking back on the wedding events from just over 3 weeks’ distance, I cherish most the presence of so many people who unexpectedly traveled long distances to share with us, the friends and family who had no need to pitch in but helped in so many details, and the warmth with which everyone surrounded us. Our wedding day could not have been better. If you shared in our wedding, even with your presence, thank you for making our day so rich. We recounted thoughts and stories of each of you as we enjoyed our honeymoon. Each of you played a role in our lives as God prepared us for eachother. Thank you.

Now people ask me if I feel like a brand new woman. I really don’t. I still feel like Jessica, but now I get to live with the man I love. It’s really wonderful. We’re taking our time as we work on our house. It’s nice to not have the deadlines that we had only a month ago. It’s just so easy to be Adam’s wife. I’m glad to serve him in the ways I can because he serves me so much. We’re learning a lot. There have been some troubles, and we learn so much from them. And our tastes in homemaking are so similar. Our little duplex is the coolest!

Anyway, I just thought I’d post some post-wedding thoughts for those of you who held on through our silence during the wedding chaos. Please continue to check in with us. We do intend to keep this online journal semi-current. We will especially try to use this to log our travels.

Some of you may be wondering what these travels are that we’ve been talking about. Well, we are working this year and saving money with the plan to store/sell our things next summer, get a one way ticket over the Atlantic, next June or July we’ll start in North-Eastern Europe with our hiking boots and backpacks, and we’ll slowly work our way down to the Mediterranian then over to India and across Asia. We plan to spend at least a year travelling, plugging in with missionaries, communities, and Christian congragations all over the place to see what God is doing, what the need is, and what we can do to be of use. We hope that on this trek, we will find a place and purpose to settle in for a while. If a year’s travel passes, and we are led to return to the states, then we will gladly do that, richer for the experience.

Please pray for and think of us this year as we try to establish good habits in our marriage and prepare to go on our exciting journey next summer.
